Another fave drum practice idea that really helps my playing grooves. Grooving Bass Drum Ostinatos (well at least trying) Ostinato=repetitive phrase Attempting to groove a 1/8 note hihat pattern and 2 + 4 on the snare to try to create a solid backbeat. The bass drum pattern changes every 4 bars – but the groove is more important. Make it more useful for your legs by playing on the ride and using 1/4 notes (or off beats) with foot hihat . Bassdrum Ostinatos 1/4 notes – Four on the Floor 1 + 3 – Backbeat 1 – Funk 2 + 4 – Ska 3 – One drop reggae 8th notes – Banging 8th note &s – the ‘off beats’ of 8ths 1 + 2& + 4 – Mambo or Baiao 1 + 2& – The Charleston 2& + 4 – Songo 2& – Bomba 4 x 16ths on 1 + 3 – 1/2a Blue Monday 1 + 1da + 2 + 2da + 3 + 3da + 4 + 4da – Samba 1 + 1e + 3 + 3e – 1/2 Afrobeat 1 + 2& + 3e – Funky groove Download the PDF here: www.humyo.com Or here: www.mediafire.com This example at 120 bpm which appears to be my current 16ths limit – I leave it out when trying higher speeds. Various edits as I funked it up a few times… I’d just written the exercise out in the garden and was trying to groove and read… That was enjoyable and I’ll be doing that again. Have a go! (R)evolution of Rock Guitar – Fractal Audio Axe-Fx Ultra Preamp/Effects processor Part III Played by Ketil Strand. This is a new version of my “Evolution of Rock Guitar” video series, which is also a demo of my new Fractal Audio Systems Axe-Fx Ultra Pre-amp/Effects processor. This time I used the Axe-Fx Ultra exclusively for all guitar sounds and effects and recorded it direct in Cubase, no extra “tricks” done in the mix or anything, it’s all coming from the Axe-Fx (except the backing tracks of course..) But I’m using many different guitars as shown and mentioned in the video. I’ve also mentioned some of the amp types and effects from the Axe-Fx that I’m using on the different tracks, if anybody should need more specific details, please contact me (the Axe-Fx has thousands of parameters to adjust..).
